MTB Brake Pads

There are a couple of options with brake blocks (or pads). Most blocks slide into the block shoe / holder which attaches to the brake caliper, some do not - so you would need blocks with shoe / holders. Most blocks are designed for use with aluminium rims, if you ride carbon wheels, you will need carbon specific blocks which perform better on carbon surface.

Firstly, check brake manufacturer & model, disc brake pads differ in size and shape between models. Pads come in three types; Sintered, Organic and Semi-Metal.

Sintered Pads last the longest, but take a while to bed-in and can be noisy.

Organic Pads are quick to bed-in, less noisy, but can glaze over and don't last as long as sintered.

Semi-Metal Pads combine the best elements of sintered and organic, they can glaze over and are more expensive.
