Smith Optics
Smith Optics are based in Sun Valley, Idaho and are credited with producing the first googles featuring breathable vents and sealed lenses way back in 1965. Smith’s founder DR Bob Smith was originally a dentist and used his lab tools to make his early models by hand. Prior to his manufacturing deal the first googles were often made on the kitchen table and exchanged for lift passes to help with on slope testing. Smith Optics have now expanded dramatically to be a worldwide recognised name in the field of skiing and now cycling as well as numerous other sports.
Building on its excellent reputation from producing googles Smith Optics grew its model and are now one of the leading brands in its field. Smiths innovations over the years include the 5X Anti-Fog inner lens, the I/O series featuring a quick release lens system, patented Turbo Fan air management system, patented Regulator adjustable lens ventilation system, patented Roll Off's film advance system for motocross, and the patented ODS (Ocular Docking System) prescription insert. One of Smiths most popular inventions in recent times is its patented Slider and Pivlock series sunglasses, offering you interchangeable lenses and optimal polarization, clarity and colour enhancement. Aside from superior eyewear, Smith Optics has also developed a line of ski and bike helmets, providing protection while setting industry standards in style, function, and fit.
Smith’s products are now sold all over the world and have become the benchmark of unique, durable and high quality eyewear, googles and helmets. The company also sponsors a number of riders and athletes who compete at the very top of their game. As well as generating good exposure for the company these sponsorships are key to the development and testing to make sure future models are as good as they possibly can be.
