Castelli Premio Black Bib Shorts - SS24
The Premio Black Bib Shorts are engineered to deliver premium long-distance comfort, strategically using the latest fabric technology to create a short that delivers big on comfort, support, speed and durability.
The first thing that is notable about the Premio is what is missing: the seams and panels. This is because Castelli has created a new fabric that is woven to match the needs of various parts of the body, offering unrivalled comfort and support. The lower leg has a raw-cut ending with silicone backed yarn to keep the shorts in place, while the four-way stretch fabric in the thigh provides just the right amount of muscle support.
The premium fabric extends into the back and is perforated for ventilation. Around the pelvis the fabric is slightly thicker to offer compression, keeping Castelli’s top-of-the-line Progetto X2 seat pad in place, and avoiding any transparency issues.

Rin For all the rave reviews, I found the very low cut on stomach gives no protection from cold (didn't even reach my navel and I'm 5' 10", 69 kg as a regular a medium size as they come). Arms straps are very tight over the shoulders, uncomfortably so. Pad looks good, but material felt like crepe paper and was quite noisy. I returned item immediately as I didn't want even to risk riding in them and being unable to return them..
Mr Hatter If you have plans for longer rides, these are worth the investment. Truly the most comfortable shorts I have owned. They have been put through two 6 hour + rides and have felt as good at the end as they did for the first kilometre. Good fit, great pad, lightweight materials and finish. I have tried high-end shorts from two rival manufacturers and they failed to come even close. Will be wearing them for my first Sportive in July.
Mr Soon Bar none, the best bib shorts I have ridden on in 40+ years. Comfortable and form fitting. The only consideration is value - to some it doesn't matter but you get what you pay for. Just glad that I can afford these shorts now...

Mr Foot The ‘primo black’ is comfortable for those 100mile rides and fun rides in the forest both on road and gravel so I am now looking forward to riding LEJOG next month with these bib shorts. The pad design is the most effective of all my shorts and works in harmony with a short nose saddle.
