We recently caught up with one of our ‘up and coming’ supported riders Katie Mathison. She is a local Triathlete who has been competing since an early age and has big aspirations for the future.

What does a typical training week look like?
I am currently at Bath university studying sports performance and training with the performance centre for triathlon. My course suits the needs for performance athletes by giving the opportunity to train full time alongside their studies.
My training week consists of 22 to 26 hours of training made up of swim, bike, run alongside my strength and conditioning. With additional support from physiotherapist and more. Being within a team environment allows me to have athletes to push me in each session.

What have your favourite events been so far and why?
So far my favourite events have all been British super series events. Allowing me to race against the best senior athletes in Britain. In particular Sunderland this year was my favourite race due to the longer distance and coming top 5 for my age.
Katie races using Vision Wheels (as seen on her bike below).
What are your goals for the future?
My goals for next season is to gain experience racing at European level and have success in the British super series.
Favourite athletes or inspirations?
My favourite athlete in Lucy Charles. As she joined triathlon late and was told multiple times she wouldn’t make it, but this year won the Ironman world championships at Kona.
That rounds up our local athlete feature for this week! You can follow Katie’s progress via her Instagram page @katie_mathison
