Finding Grip in New Places: A Reverse Components Review

Reverse Components are a brand well established in the mountain bike world. Based in Germany and with over 20 years’ experience, it’s no wonder they are ahead of the game when it comes to making quality-assured parts for bikes. At Merlin, we’ve been given the opportunity to test one of their more niche products, seat grip tap. Here’s what we think.

First Impressions

Soon after opening, it’s clear you’re in the safe hands of a brand who knows how to guide a user through their product. With both image examples and descriptions, there’s little room for error when getting started. After following the steps regarding preparation of the seat, you, as the rider, have the satisfaction of peeling off the sticky back of the tape. A 3M adhesive layer also ensures a firm and long-lasting grip.

Slopestyle and Dirt Jumping

We can be pretty certain seat grab tricks won’t feel the same after using this tape. Whether it’s supermans, toboggans or cannonballs, the tape’s friction promises a strong grip that means you can focus on extension. Suicide no-handers and barspins top off the trick list with the tape providing a strong hold for your knees.

XC, Enduro or Trail

The remaining pieces to your grip tape kit are just as effective on other bikes too. Placed on top of the seat, the grip tape can keep you secure in the saddle throughout the ups, whether you’re a fan of them or not. Come the end of a muddy ride, the strong adhesive keeps the tape in place, even when washing it. Once again, this product ticks all the boxes when it comes to durability.

Downhill

Downhill is one of the disciplines at the front of mountain biking for its high speeds, huge jumps and tricky technical sections. With these in mind, Reverse have designed their seat grip tape to provide that extra control needed during the steeps of downhill track. When stuck on the side of the saddle, it acts as another contact point for the rider. This allows them to navigate all conditions on the bike.

Freeride

Freeride is the discipline of mountain biking home to many legends. It has shown us the lack of boundaries on a bike through the likes of Szymon Godziek, Nico Vink and Ihan Patiño, all of whom are known for their flawless riding style and tricks. The seat grip tape by Reverse Components is a must for this type of riding. It’s the perfect addition to all aerial seat tricks providing a grippy base for extensions, including everyone’s favourite, the superman seatgrab.
