Now in it’s 6th generation the legendary Castelli Gabba takes Foul Weather Race Protection to a new level.
Making use of a brand new fabric technology, the Castelli Gabba R is now functionally waterproof and extremely breathable, all in a jacket that is one of the most aero on the market thanks to a close-to-body cut.
Development
Thanks to years of testing Castelli have been able to achieve a jacket that is high-stretch, functionally waterproof and extremely breathable – perfect for rides in the toughest of conditions. With the ‘R’ standing for race, the Gabba R features the fit and aerodynamics of a speedsuit and the protection of a rain cape.
Aero is Everything
During any race, the benefits of having aerodynamic bikes and kit is everything and was key when the goals of developing the Castelli Gabba R were set out. With the assistance of pro-teams such as Soudal Quick-Step and making use of wind tunnels, in certain situations the Gabba R is faster than a Sanremo BTW Speed Suit.
Waterproof
Since the Gabba launch back in 2011, the focus was always to keep the rider as comfortable and warm and possible whilst riding or racing in foul weather. The Gabba R however takes this to the next level by being what Castelli describe as ‘functionally waterproof’ – in other words keeping you dry from the outside. With a hydrostatic head rating of 5,000mm+ the material used is the sweet-spot for breathability as well being sufficient for preventing driving rain from forcing it’s way in.
The Fit
With 100% stretch in every direction material, the Gabba R is designed specifically for the ultimate performance, be that at World Tour Level or high-level amateur racing. It is for riders who demand the very best. The close-to-body fit that the jacket has is aerodynamically optimized whilst still being comfortable to wear. And thanks to the close-fit, any moisture that is formed inside the jacket stays warm thanks to the insulating benefits of being directly next to the body.
An Option For All
Like previous versions of the Gabba, the Gabba R is available in both a short-sleeve jersey and a long-sleeve jacket, as well as a specific women’s jacket. The short-sleeve Gabba R is the perfect garment for racing in the rain in cool temperatures and high-intensity training rides. The jacket version of the Gabba R completely replaces your rain cape and will be your first choice when rain threatens. The jacket is also perfectly packable, folding into its own pocket – a great jacket to carry around for emergency protection.
