I’ve been an owner of this ‘Winter Adventure Jacket’ since last Autumn and had plenty of time to put it to the test to write a review. I opted for the military green colourway and have included some photos of the new colours available for 2023/24.
Let’s start with…
Warmth
This is where the jacket truly excels. There has not been one ride where I have felt too cold with this jacket, pair it with a decent base layer and/or long sleeve jersey (depending on the day) and you’ll be plenty warm enough.
“Inside there is Polartec® Alpha® Direct insulation that delivers maximum loft and warmth with minimal bulk, so if the mercury does rise this puffer jacket will pack down into a frame or handlebar bag with ease.” I can confirm that the jacket is very easy to pack away and for long rides I’m always glad to have to hand if the temperatures drop in the winter afternoons.
Functionality
“Nano Flex Stretch woven fabric on the undersides of the sleeves, in the sides, and lower back introduces flex to the jacket where you need.” This feature is excellent, brining me warmth on my rides but without a big bulky jacket getting in the way.
“Zipper pockets provides safe storage for valuables, the rear pockets have a cover to keep contents protected and help this jacket blend in when off the bike.” I can confirm that the pockets are very reliable and I would certainly miss having zips on the front with plenty of room for my phone, keys or energy gels!
Durability
The Unlimited Puffy Cycling Jacket as with all Castelli Clothing is built to endure. Buying quality ensures you don’t need to buy twice.
For those cold long rides on the bike, there’s nothing else I’d replace it with. It’s zips and pockets don’t show any signs of wear, which is always promising. I’m confident this jacket will see me through many winters!
Weather Protection
The Unlimited Puffy is ideal for long adventure rides where the temperature can drop low in the evenings. The jacket has an outer shell in a windproof and water repellent woven fabric. I have found the jacket to be my go-to for those cold crisp winter rides. It can handle a fair amount of rain too (if you happen to get caught out in a shower) …
Versatility
The jacket has a cool, casual look and could be worn on or off the bike for a coffee stop or day out hiking. I particularity like how the rear pockets have a cover to keep contents protected. It also has enough insulation to keep you warm if you stop for a coffee and snack on a cold day!
Overall, The Castelli Unlimited Puffy Jacket is a fantastic bit of kit, sure to see you through many winters!
